Kvickly Type

Kvickly, which is part of the Coop retail chain of companys, asked LOOP to develop a custom typeface that would help support the company’s visual identity and brand.

The typeface should be used by professional graphic designers and visual communication providers. The new typeface should be able to be used on all digital platforms, thus optimized for digital use.

Kvickly was founded in the beginning of the 60’ies, inspired by the fast growing supermarkets in the US. Back in the day, the hand-painted sales signs were trusted to professional craftsmen. Today only a few dedicated craftsmen keep the craft alive.

We found the same style of handwritten sale signs looking at historical footage from Kvickly in the 70’ies, and used this as inspiration for the new typeface.

Inspired by these early handwritten signs, we developed a contemporary typeface, that would not only work on signs in-store, but also on all communication platforms.
